Miekie Dames obtained a BA and BA Honours degree from the Northwest University. He later obtained a DPLR from Unisa, Senior Management Programme from University of Pretoria and a Certificate in Executive Couching from UCT.

After a short period as a Labour Market Researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council(HSRC) he commenced with a career in Human Resources Management, working for companies such as Siemens, ATC, African Cables, and Cbi Electric Telecom Cables, where he occupied various Executive positions.

He also holds the position of Director of the Association of Electrical Cable Manufacturers of South Africa( AECMSA) and performance a key role to position the Cable Industry as a key sector in the South African economy.
